Medland: Victor Charles

On Sunday May 29, 2022, Victor Charles Medland passed away peacefully at age 84. Vic was a loving husband to Pauline (nee Becker) for 62 years. Committed father to Sue Thiemann and Vic Medland and daughter in law Jane Medland (nee Dunleavy). Treasured Papa and grandpa to Brett Medland, Colton Medland, Pauline Thiemann and Jake Thiemann. He was profoundly proud of his grandkids! Lovingly remembered by his brother Brett Medland and pre deceased by his sister-in-law Judy Medland. Uncle Vic will be affectionately remembered by his nephews David and Shawn Medland. Fondly remembered by brother-in-law Ed Becker and his four nieces and nephews. Victor was born on December 10, 1937 in New Liskeard, Ontario and moved to St. Catharines in 1960 to pursue his career and settle his family. He married the love of his life, Pauline on November 28, 1960. Together they built a home in St. Catharines close to family and many great friends. Victor and Pauline spent every summer at the cottage in New Liskeard and many winters with family in Florida. He instilled the gift of travel and love of social community. He worked as a surveyor for the City of St. Catharines and retired at age 58. A special thank you to the many oncology care physicians, nurses, PSW’s and all of the caring staff at St. Elizabeth’s for their compassion and thoughtful attention during a spirited two-and-a-half-year battle, with special attention in the last few months. As per Vic’s wishes, cremation has taken place however, a service will not be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Passfield Mortuary Services Inc. The family will mourn him privately and asks you to give thought to fond memories, the many enjoyable times spent together and of course the many funny stories (well he always thought they were funny). He loved the outdoors, including fishing, hunting and the cottage life. He was an avid reader, with a sharp mind and a keen sense of worldly affairs. He was a spirited soul who lived life to its fullest. The family asks you to celebrate an incredible journey and a legacy of fabulous memories. He was adored by his grandchildren and the family will continue to keep his memory alive. If so desired, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Victor’s memory would be appreciated by his family.
