Obituary for Rhoda Catherine McClelland

McCLELLAND: Rhoda Catherine
March 2, 1924 – August 18, 2022

The remarkable Rhoda Catherine McClelland has balanced the accounts and closed the books on a long life. We will miss her. She was a beloved daughter, feisty sibling, favourite aunt and faithful friend. A proud member of the McClelland Clan, Rhoda will be sadly missed by her brothers Leonard (Chris), Howard (Joan) and sister-in-law Joyce (Neil) and three generations of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great grand little ones who live across Ontario and as far away as New England and California. Rhoda loved them all.
Rhoda was predeceased by her parents William and Elsie, six of her eight brothers Arnold, Gerald, Ralph, Neil, George and Don. Her sisters Evelyn and other cherished members of her extended family.
A fearless tomboy in childhood, Rhoda grew to become a capable business woman, learning office and accounting skills at Wallace’s Department Store before joining Conroy Manufacturing (Later Kelsey Haye’s) where she retired as comptroller in 1986. She was a lifetime member of Silver Spire United Church (formerly St. Paul Street United) and served faithfully in many roles including chairman of the Board of Stewards. A fifty-year member of the St. Catharine’s Golf and Country Club where she enjoyed many years of golf and friendships. Rhoda’s kindness and attentiveness will never be forgotten as she cared for her mother in her later years with trips to Florida and England and through her declining years. Throughout life, including the hard parts, Rhoda showed up with a quick sense of humour and a great sense of style. She carried those qualities to Niagara Gardens Senior Living where she lived in her later years. We are especially grateful to their staff for their compassion and care of Rhoda. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been in trusted to Passfield Mortuary Services Inc. A private family service will follow in September. If desired, a donation to the “Silver Spire United Church Out of The Cold, Homeless and Shower” program would be greatly appreciated by her family.
