Nanci Nutt, much beloved mother, mother-in-law, and devoted grandmother, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Nanci will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Carissa (Jason) Beckett and Jessica (Todd) Siemens, her adoring grandson Liam (Beckett), her sister Deborah Speedie (Michael) and many nieces, nephews and friends. We are sure she was elated to be welcomed home by her best friends Diane Myers and Deby Matthews. We have no doubts they are catching up, having a drink, and lots of laughs.
Nanci was meant to be a mom. She embodied unconditional love and care for her family and was always thinking of others before herself. She was the perfect example of what a mother is and always took on a motherly role with those who needed it. She was always willing to help anyone, in any way that she could. She worked tirelessly to ensure her family knew how loved they were and how proud she was of them. Being a grandmother brought her immense joy and Liam will always remember the special times they spent together. Liam will always have memories of her caring for him. Over the past months, he worked hard to take care of her with ice cream treats and kisses on the forehead.
Nanci enjoyed a long career at Sears. She loved her career and demonstrated an incredible work ethic. She was a great model of a career woman and passed on her work ethic to her children. She always talked about the importance of being a strong, independent woman. Her girls ended up a bit more fiery than she may have wanted but she was very proud that they both achieved success in life and in their careers. She was a great role model and loved her work.
Nanci enjoyed many aspects of life. She loved to travel, having dinners out with family, coffee dates with her sister Deb, shopping (even though she never found what she was looking for), and her dog Mia. Mia was a constant companion and was a source of joy in her life. She loved her granddogs as well and was always willing to dog sit. Travel gave her great joy and thankfully she was able to travel extensively with her children and her best friend, Diane. These memories will keep her with us.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hallock and the staff at the Walker Family Cancer Center as well the staff at the NIAGARA Health System St. Catharines’ Emergency Department for their assistance, compassion, and care shown during such a difficult time.
Cremation has taken place and due to the ongoing pandemic a celebration of life will take place once it is safe to do so. Nanci deserves to be celebrated with friends and family and when we can, raise a glass to a life well lived. Details will be shared in the following weeks.
Nanci’s family invites you to celebrate her legacy by choosing your own act of kindness today - and in the days to come. Please buy a stranger a coffee, adopt a dog, share a meal, but most importantly, give your loved ones a hug. If you would like to honour Nanci with a charitable donation, we encourage you to think of something close to your heart.
