Obituary for Lillian Moskal (Sahajduk)

Our family is sad to announce the passing of Lillian Moskal on March 12, 2024 at Westhills Care Centre in St. Catharines. Lillian was a devoted mother to Michael (Della), Marlon and Michelle (Walt) Szpilewski. She adored and cherished her grandchildren Samantha, Wil, Colton, Sarah and Erin and great grandson Reid. She was predeceased by her son Michael (2022) and husband Mike (2012).

Lillian was the eldest daughter of immigrant parents Mike and Nellie Sahajduk. She’s the sister of Rosie Brickell and the late Jennie Hand. Married in 1951, Lillian became a working mom. She worked at various businesses, including the original Homestead Donuts and the cash office at K-Mart, all while making lunches and dinners for her family. She loved taking care of her children and cooking homemade pierogis, cabbage rolls, lasagna and desserts.

Lillian was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 60 years, where she formed many lifelong friendships. The sorority was known for their charitable work and Lillian was instrumental in their efforts to help the less fortunate.

At times, Lillian was an overprotective mom/grandma, but her concern was rooted in her unwavering love for her family. She was a generous and kind woman, with a wonderful sense of humour.

We would like to thank the PSWs who took good care of our mom at Heidehof Assisted Living for several years, before moving to Westhills Care Centre in February 2023. We would also like to thank the PSWs, RPNs, RNs, doctors and staff at Westhills who treated our mom with dignity, care and respect and provided her much comfort in the last year of her life.

Though we’re very sad, we appreciate and celebrate Lillian’s 92 years of life with gratitude and love. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to PASSFIELD MORTUARY SERVICES INC (905) 682 0474. A private family gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
