Obituary for Laverne George Campbell

Laverne (Soup) George Campbell 1928-2022
On Tuesday March 22, 2022, Laverne Campbell passed away peacefully at age 93. Laverne was a loving husband to Lorraine (nee Barry) for 65 years. Committed father to Lori (Alex) Varas, Leanne (Al) Zubrickas and Lindsey (Jennifer) Campbell. Treasured grandfather to Deanna (Christian), Jenna and Riley Zubrickas, Matthew and Mark Varas and Kayla and Owen Campbell. Lovingly remembered by his sister Helen (late Lorne) Fetterly. Predeceased by brothers Bede (late Lucille), Bud (late Jessie), Lorne (late Vivian) and sisters Shirley (Bill) McRoberts and Dorothy (late Vince) Lohnes. Uncle Laverne will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Laverne was born on November 6, 1928 in Elderslie Twp, Bruce Co. and moved to St. Catharines. He married the love of his life, Lorraine on September 22, 1956. Together they built a home in St. Catharines close to his family allowing the many cousins to attend the same school and church. Laverne and Lorraine spent every summer at the cottage in Port Elgin. Laverne instilled the gift of travel and love of social community. Laverne worked as a lineman for the Hydro and retired at age 58. A special thank you to the staff at Chapel Heights, for their care and compassion over the last few months. As per Laverne's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to PASSFIELD MORTUARY SERVICES INC. (905) 682 0474. A service will take place at Silver Spire United Church, 366 St. Paul Street, St. Catharines on Saturday, April 9th at 10 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Royal Canadian Legion, 15 George St, St Catharines from 11a.m. to 1p.m. If so desired, donations made to Out of the Cold program at Silver Spire United Church (silverspire.ca) in Laverne's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
