Obituary for George Angus

Angus: George,

It is with great sadness that the family of George Angus announce his passing at the age of 89
years after battling with serious health conditions at the hospital in Niagara Falls. George was
always a strong man and he showed this strength during his final battle.
George was born in Canada, but grew up on his family’s farm in Finland. His family moved back
to Canada just before WWII. George always liked to tell the story of the first orange he ate on
the boat over to Canada. Before that trip he had never had one and he didn’t quite know how to
eat it so he ate the whole thing; skin, seeds and all. This story sums up a lot about George. He
was always ready to try new things (usually food-related) and he always persevered, even when
times were challenging. Needless to say, oranges remained a life-long favorite fruit (but he did
eventually learn to peel them).
One of George’s most proud achievements in his life was marrying his wife, Marilyn. George
and Marilyn met in Burlington where they lived in the same building. They were married in 1982
and moved to St. Catharines where Mike and Leanne were born.
George often enjoyed telling stories of his youth that were always daring and fun-filled. He loved
life and he loved to do and talk about things that he was passionate about. George was an avid
golfer and sportsman. He could talk to you about any sport but particularly he liked hockey and
football (being a Jr. Ticat in his youth). George loved to have projects! He always wanted to be
working on something and when he wasn’t working on a project, he was thinking about one.
During his last months, he was most concerned about not getting up to the cottage to work on
his numerous reno-projects that he had going.
George had so many great qualities, he loved to talk to anyone, he was positive, truthful,
protective, hard-working and dedicated. George loved his wife, children and grand-children and
it meant so much to him for them to be with him during his last few months.
George will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn, his children Greg (Yasku), Paul (Jean),
Mike and Leanne (Devin), his grand-children, Steven, Jonathan, Carmen, John, Ryan and
James, his sister, Alice, his loyal cats, Lily-Bell, Rose and Ivy; as well as numerous relatives and
friends.
George was predeceased by his parents Oskar and Ana.
A special thanks to the staff at Niagara Health St. Catharines and Niagara Falls sites.
A private service will be held at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery.
