Obituary for Fernando Goncalves Neves

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fernando Neves on May 22nd, 2023. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend, who was born in Mozambique on July 3, 1961, and leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew him.
Fernando moved from Mozambique to Portugal where he married and welcomed his two daughters. In 2001, he and his family moved to Canada.
Fernando is survived by his daughters, Daisy Cruz and Cristiana Neves, his grandson Sebastian Cruz, his sons-in-law Jonathan Cruz and Serge Perron and mother of his daughters Sandra Longo. He will be dearly missed by family and friends, whose lives were made brighter by his presence.
He was an enthusiastic and a skilled cook who enjoyed playing cards, running and relishing Portuguese food. He had an appreciation for 70s music and classic cars and would often be found watching soccer games, cooking shows, action movies or simply barbecuing or relaxing at the beach.
Some of Fernando's greatest accomplishments include honors in the military in Portugal, moving to Canada to give his daughters a better future and working at Star Tile for 22 years to provide for his family. His legacy lives on in the love for food and his legendary skills in the kitchen, with recipes that will forever be passed down through generations.
Fernando was a man who always had great stories to tell and a knowledge for history . He was proud to share his culture with those around him and instilled in his daughters the importance of being proud of their Portuguese heritage.
As we remember and celebrate his life, we also acknowledge the impact he had on so many, and he will forever be remembered for his generosity, humor, and love.
A funeral service for Fernando will be held on June 3, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria . In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Water4Life Mozambique in memory of Fernando Neves.
